Our English-speaking congregation meets at Crkva svetog Blaža (St. Blaise’s Church), Prilaz Gjure Deželića 64, Zagreb [see How to find us], on the second and fourth Sundays of the month at 5:00 pm. We also hold other occasional events, so please check our calendar of events.
Who are we?
Our group consists of people of many nationalities and church backgrounds, and our aim is to provide church services in English for anyone who needs them, whether long-term residents, those here for shorter periods, tourists, or visitors.
We meet twice a month, on the 2nd and 4th Sundays, from September to June. One service is a celebration of Holy Communion with visiting clergy, and the other a lay-led Service of the Word. The number and ages of children attending vary from year to year. Our aim is to provide children’s activities during the services, as needed, so that parents can enjoy worship. Refreshments follow the service.
The Zagreb congregation is linked to Christ Church Vienna in the Diocese in Europe, which is part of the Church of England. Our nearest sister congregations are in Ljubljana and Belgrade. For more information on these, please click the icons at the bottom of the page.
We wish you a warm welcome.
End of year 2018
As we pass on from 10 June our final service until after the summer, we contemplate a mixture of the happy and a twinge of sadness. On 8 June Mark Davies was awarded the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, for his services to the British community in Croatia–cricket, English language teaching and work with the British Council, as well as his service in the Anglican Chaplaincy. We wish Mark our proudest ‘Well done’!

At our final 10 June service we wished our fondest farewell to some more dear friends– Ify, Mary and Ify’s two children, Mikayla and Jonathan. We will miss them, and will hold them in our prayers as they move onto their new life beginning in America.

So we will enjoy our summer activities and meditate on our reduced regular numbers come this September, trusting in the Lord’s true intentions for our ongoing worship and work among English speakers in Zagreb.
Chairperson’s report for 2017-2018
During the week of 16-24 May the agenda for our annual church meeting, with request for responses (agree/ not agree) to agenda items, was circulated via email to all of our church members, including an annual report of our activities over the past year, prepared by our chairperson Janet Tuškan
Janet’s report began:
After several years of plenty we seem to be entering a leaner time. After the Snowden family left us in 2016, in the summer of 2017 four complete families moved away: the Williams, the Dong Hwans, the Marshalls and the Faggs, and Colin Bucknor left for service in Afghanistan. Audrey Bucknor and Christy Lawrence also moved on. We no longer have a Sunday School group, but pre-school children are still cared for in a crèche run by Esther Davis. We are grateful to her! In spite of being scattered far and wide, it is good to stay in contact with former members as far as possible.
